In what comes as a great news for the eSports industry, Fnatic Esports Brand has managed to raise more than $7 Million from Jim Palotta’s Raptor Group which has ownership stakes with NBA team Boston Celtics and Italian Football giants AS Roma. MLB team Houston Astros’ ownership and a few other have also contributed to the investment.
In a statement on the site’s website, Fnatic’s founder Sam Matthews said:
“There has been strong growth in esports, which has accelerated in recent years, but the major shift has been in the acceptance and inclusion by sports franchises, media companies, and high profile individuals who have entered and advanced the industry rapidly.”
Speaking of the investment, he said:
“We’re incredibly excited by the opportunities available within esports, and having world class investors and advisors only enhances our ability to address these opportunities and continue to innovate,”
The previous one year has been worthwhile for the eSports industry. The growth of the eSports has encouraged a lot of traditional sports leagues such as NBA and MLB into making investments. Early this year AS Roma partnered with Fnatic to create their own FIFA eSports roster. In fact, in 2016 NBA team Boston Celtics & Toronto Raptors had shown increased interest in the new eSports NBA league. Boston Celtics’ player Jonas Jerebko went one step ahead and purchased the eSports franchise Renegades.
The current investment according to the organization will be used in bolstering its support & technical staff such as an increase in the number coaches, esports psychologists. According to Sam, the company will focus on making its mark in the eSports industry by building on its already strong line of apparels and eSports gear Fnatic Gear
Fnatic Esports has set high standards in the eSports industry and their history date back to almost 2004. Their major winnings have been in Counter-Strike where they have managed to establish themselves as a top organization and boast of winning the most number CS:GO majors than any other team. Their other major achievements include winning the first League of Legends world championship and having a formidable Dota 2 team.
